An Enfield over 50s group has hit a new milestone by welcoming its 5,000th member.
The Enfield Over 50s Forum, based in Millfield Theatre, Enfield, celebrated reaching the milestone with a wine and cheese party at the Enfield Civic Centre in Silver Street, Enfield Town.
Petula Papadopoullou, of Southgate, has the honour of becoming the 5,000th member of the voluntary organisation.
Enfield Borough Council leader Councillor Doug Taylor also congratulated the forum on its work and described it as the “jewel in the crown of Enfield’s voluntary organisations”.
Forum president Monty Meth said the group campaigns not just to improve the quality of life for members but for future generations of pensioners.
He said: "The forum's successes - getting the 307 bus to go direct to Barnet Hospital, ending the costly 0844 phone lines to GP surgeries, the community toilet scheme and the by-law banning spitting - are helping the whole community, not just older people."
