A girl who was deported late yesterday in the evening has been taken into safety, her former school has said.

Yashika Bageerathi’s dramatic battle against deportation came to an end last night when she was escorted onto an Air Mauritius plane to be deported.

The 19-year-old fled the country with her mother, Sowbhagyawatee and sisters in 2011 fearing their safety from a family member.

Fearing for her safety, her former school Oasis Academy, who have led the campaign to stop Yashika being deported, have told the Enfield Independent that she has been taken safely from the airport when she landed.

The spokesman for the school said: “We were contacted by people in Mauritius who have taken her to safety.

“We cannot disclose where she has gone but the fact people have been willing to help in Mauritius shows how big an impact the campaign has had.”

Students of the academy have fought tirelessly to stop their friends being taken away before completing her A-Level exams in two months time.

A late bid at the high court yesterday evening was also rejected.

On Tuesday, Ms Bageerathi pleaded with a select committee to help save her child from deportation.

When the committee questions immigration minister James Brokenshire on the deportation said that the minister should not intervene in Yashika’s case and that there was ‘no justification’ to do so.
