Named and Shamed: Enfield's worst takeaways

It’s Friday and after a long and hard weeks work, the last thing you want to think about is cooking.

You opt to grab a takeaway, a quick fix to satisfy your hunger.

But before you do, you might want to have a look at this list of the six places in the borough with a zero food hygiene rating according to the Food Standards Agency, meaning these fast food outlets are in urgent need of improvement.

Enfield Independent:

Chicken Zone in Fore Street, Upper Edmonton was issued its zero rating by the Food Standards Agency as recently as January 15, 2014. Owner Kandih Thananayagam said: “We are sending our staff for food hygiene training and we will see our rating improve. Our shop is clean and I have seen far worse granted more stars than us.”

Enfield Independent:

July 25, 2013 marked the day Dallas Pizza of Ordnance Road in Enfield Wash was given a 0/5 rating. When the Enfield Independent approached the pizza takeaway store, nobody was available for a comment.

Enfield Independent:

Winchmore Hill’s Hot Wok Express in Green Lanes which serves Chinese food was told it needed to urgently improve its hygiene on December 17, 2013. A member of staff who wanted to remain anonymous said: “We had some problems but all the staff have now had the latest training.”

Enfield Independent:

Picnic Kebab & Pizza was issued its rating on November 18, 2013. Found in Green Lanes, Palmers Green. Owner Ehsan Akhlaque, who took over the business on February 1, 2014 said: "I only found out about this rating recently as previous owner didn't tell me.

"I am writing to the Food Standards Agency and working on changing this rating so hopefully this problem will be solved soon."

Enfield Independent:

County Fried Chicken situated in Hertford Road, Enfield was given the lowest mark in February 2014 and a worker, who chose not give his name said he had “no idea” why the shop had been given its latest rating, claiming the takeaway shop is “always clean”.

Enfield Independent:

Master Kebab in Silver Street, Edmonton, was told it needed urgent improvements in hygiene standards on November 4, 2013. After approaching Master Kebab, the takeaway chose not to respond.

Hygiene ratings are ranked 0 to 5.
0 - Urgent improvement necessary
1 - Major improvement necessary
2 - Improvement necessary
3 - Generally satisfactory
4 - Good
5 - Very good
