Celebrations over a last-minute reprieve for a girl facing deportation alone have been cut short as it was revealed that her whole family are also due to be deported.

Yashika Bageerathi, 19, of Fox Lane in Palmers Green, was due to be sent back to Mauritius without her family yesterdat afternoon, but was given a lifeline after it was claimed that British Airways refused to let her board the flight.

This led to celebration from her classmates at Oasis Academy in South Street, Ponders End, who had set up a campaign on social media and an online petition which currently has more than 120,000 signatures.

However, the Enfield Independent now understands that later that evening, her mother, Sowbhagyawatee, 38, was refused asylum along with sister Shaivya, 16, and brother Cherish, 11, meaning the whole family is now expected to be deported.

The family fled the African country in 2011 fearing for their safety but their appeal against deportation has been rejected.

A Home Office spokesman said it considered every application on its individual merits and did not routinely comment on individual cases.

The timings of a possible deportation are yet to be confirmed and Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes is still awaiting to hear back from immigraiton minister James Brokenshire MP after making his representation.
