A school’s attempt to prevent one of their pupils from being deported through a high court injunction has failed.

Oasis Academy’s Yashika Bageerathi, 19, of Fox Lane in Palmers Green, is now relying on representation from Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes to immigration minister Theresa May to look favourably upon her case.

The "model student", as she has been described by her peers, has received nationwide support and an online petition started by students at the school has collected 22,500 signatures since Thursday, March 20.

The school now claims that it is pursuing "legal routes" and hopes the home secretary will save her from deportation today, which is scheduled for 1.50pm.

She fled Mauritius with her mother and younger brother and sister two-and-half years ago fearing their safety.

Every two weeks, Yashika would travel to London Bridge to sign on as part of her asylum seeker condition but was detained on December 20, 2013 for six weeks.

The school managed to help her get bail as no deportation notice had been issued within 72 hours of her being detained.

However, she was detained once more last week and a deportation notice was placed for Tuesday, March 25.

People are continuing to take to social media site Twitter to express their support for the talented mathematician by using #fightforYashika or #saveYashika .
