People with rare blood types have been urged to give blood because health service stocks are running low.

Trent Park golf course, in Bramey Road, Enfield, will hold its first blood donation session for people who have the blood groups O negative or B negative on Thursday between 1.15pm and 7.30pm.

The second date will be at Angel Community Centre in Raynham Road in Edmonton on Friday, April 4 between 12.45pm and 7.15pm.

Dominic Sutherland, lead donor relations manager for NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “If you have an appointment to donate at an upcoming session, please keep it, especially if you are an O negative and B negative blood donor.

“If you don’t yet have an appointment booked, please make one to donate in the upcoming weeks and help us to keep stock levels healthy.”

First available session near me - 64 days - Well enough to say no thanks. Btw. Im most EU countries you have day off, breakfast and free travel - in Germany they even pay for blood donor. How UK looks like - NOTHING at all that way is how it is. One more thing giving blood in not sterilized places like churches, golf clubs,... is high risk - that's a words one of my GP (works 30 years in NHS). So do it worth to risk even life to get nothing and probably not seeing any help further? And finally - do you know that when you give blood for free - most likely that blood will by SOLD - yes SOLD! That way I will never give blood here - even I give 17 litres so far in my life - for doing that I have free travel card in public transport for life - free treatments - no queues - FREE DENTIST and many many more - oh I will forget every time when I give blood I have full paid day off - this is not because I want another holiday for giving blood - this is due to you healthy - when you give a blood body needs at least 24h recovery/no stress. Someone will say - ok if you don't want - don't do - yes that's right but if they selling my blood why I shouldn't get even small peace of this back

I think they might have more willing donors had the government not effectively privatised the blood donation service. No way am I going to donate my blood only to have to pay for it to be distributed as needed out of my taxes.
