Businesses, schools and community groups are being encouraged to “paint the town purple” to raise awareness about cancer.

Cancer Research UK wants everyone in Enfield to back the campaign from April 7 to April 12 as part of its Relay for Life event,m which aims to bring the community together in the fight against cancer.

Elaine Henry, Relay for Life chair and Paint the Town Purple organiser, said: “We want everyone to see purple and to think about finishing the fight against cancer.

"Whether you use purple chalk to write an uplifting message, display a different reminder each day about important cancer screenings or dress a mannequin in Relay gear, it’s all about letting people know that there is hope.”

Thirty-eight businesses have already signed up “to go purple” in the borough next month.

The charity also plans to host a Purple Parade on April 12, starting in Enfield Town and Edmonton Green at 12pm.

And Relay for Life of London will take place from June 21 to June 22 at Jubilee Park, Edmonton where people will take part in a fundraising walk throughout the night for Cancer Research UK.
