A schoolboy who overcame his shyness to be a respected leader among his peers has received a special award.
James Perkins, from the Enfield Unit of the Boys’ Brigade London District, was awarded the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards during a ceremony at the Great Hall in Kensington.
The 11-year-old was nominated for the award by his peers and leaders at The Boys’ Brigade which provides activities for young people.
The Jack Petchey Foundation was established in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society and to support them in achieving their potential.
Vic Russell, JPF Coordinator, said: “We have seen Jamie develop over the past year from someone who had some difficulty at first as he was rather shy but following a successful junior section weekend, he came to the summer camp and is now a regular attendee at company section meetings.”
As well as a certificate and medallion, James had previously been awarded a grant of £200 which was spent on a visit to an activity centre.
