Planning committee members are set to approve the expansion of an Enfield school at a meeting tonight.

ARK John Keats Academy in Bell Lane, Enfield, has already welcomed 60 primary school pupils to its school in September 2013.

The school will take on 180 pupils this September once planning has been approved to build on the site.

Formerly Albany School, the plans will demolish the old sixth form centre and the design and technology block to make way for three new two-storey buildings.

There will also be a refurbishment of the existing buildings and reconfiguration of the car park.
Ambitious principal Jerry Collins believes that progress has gone well so far and is excited to continue the schools vision

He said: “It has been really exciting to work from the bottom up on this project and see you designs come to life.

“So far we have taken on primary school pupils but once planning is approved we will be taking on our first batch of primary school pupils in 2014 and first nursery pupils in 2015.”

At full capacity, the all-through school will have 1,940 pupils from nursery, all the way to 18 years old, something which doesn’t faze Mr Collins.

He said: “It is a lot of pupils but to have the ability to see pupils develop the whole way through out school is fantastic and we will be there every step of the way to give them the very best education that they fully deserve.”

The Enfield Borough Council planning meeting will be held at the Civic Centre in Silver Street at 7.30pm.
