Two Enfield clubs are set to re-open after they were closed following late night fighting.

Maze Inn of Chase Side in Southgate, was closed on February 11 after a fight broke on in the early hours of Sunday, February 9.

Police documents stated that two men were assaulted in the club by five or six men which left one man being taken to North Middlesex University hospital in Sterling Way, Edmonton.

At a licensing sub-committee at Enfield Borough Council’s civic centre in Silver Street, conditions were agreed to re-open to club between 9pm and 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Maze Inn manager, Mr David Blackwood believes this was a regrettable incident but is not a common occurrence

He said: “Our record speaks for itself, since taking charge I have never had an incident like this and indeed this was blown out of proportion by initial eye witnesses.

“One man hit his head on the floor and cut it open and was not hit by a bottle. We have an excellent relationship with the police and they have told us we have a great record.

“No conditions have been imposed on our club and whilst this was a regrettable incident, this is something we are confident won’t happen again.”

Head of the Southgate traders association Vic Smith of Vic Smith Beds in Chase Side also showed support to the club and  was surprised by what had happened.

He said: “This is very much unexpected from Maze Inn, I have been there on a few occasions and the management have always been good. I do not believe this is a regular occurrence.”

Club 303 in Jute Lane, Enfield, will also re-open after a melee had erupted in the club at 5.25am on Saturday, February 1.

The committee heard that up to 30 people had been involved in the brawl, two hours after the club is scheduled to close.

Officers had recommended that Club 303 should have its closing time brought forward to 11pm instead of 3.30am.

The committee did imposeconditions of an ID scanner to be fitted at the club and the current license holder Aydogan Islamoglu has been removed.
