Cheers erupted and the audience leapt to their feet as a teddy boy and his 1950s dancing queen were crowned this year’s North London Hospice Dancing Strictly winners.

From the moment Till Pini, 59, and Lilian Taibi, 46, walked on stage at the Millfield Theatre they had everyone behind them.

The pair looked the part, with Till in an Elvis Presley style wig, and Lilian dressed up to the nines in a red and black polka-dot skirt.

And their fun-loving jive to Jackie Wilson’s Reet Petite impressed the all-important judges, including special guest, Strictly Come Dancing Star, Robin Windsor.

Critiquing the pair’s performance, Robin said: “Till, as Bruce Forsyth would say: ‘You’re my favourite’. You’re the entertainment we’re looking for. I loved you both so much.”

The dancing duo scored an impressive ten from Robin, with his fellow judges awarding another two tens and one eight.

Till and Lilian were announced the worthy winners and awarded their very own glitter ball trophy to mark their dazzling success.

Till, who lives in Woodside Park and runs an alarm company in East Finchley, said: “I’m shocked – I can’t believe we’ve won it.

“It was nerve-wracking performing on stage but I’d said to Lilian let’s just go out and have some fun – if something goes wrong, it doesn’t matter. And that’s what we did.

“It’s been a great experience for a very worthy cause.”

Lilian, a bank officer from North Finchley, said: “I’ve never won anything before. It’s amazing. It’s been a fantastic experience, we’ve had great support throughout and made some great friends.”

All money raised by tonight’s performance will go to North London Hospice, which supports people with life-limiting illnesses.
