From a hobby to appearing on national television, an Enfield business has been rewarded for its unique range of African sauces.
Bim’s Kitchen, set up four years ago by husband and wife team James and Nicola Adedeji, of Green Lanes in Palmers Green, have created unique sauces inspired by Mr Adedeji’s native Nigeria for a wide range of dishes.
The business has now achieved its biggest achievement so far as it will now appear on the BBC Two’s James Martin’s Home Comforts on Monday.
Mr Adedeji described how the couple came up with the business.
He said: “It started as a small hobby to be honest, we had different jobs and we both really enjoyed cooking. All our sauces or condiments are created in our kitchen at home and that is still the case.
“We started by selling jars to our friends and colleagues who really liked it and from there it grew and now we distribute across the UK and even abroad.”
Following early success, Mr Adedeji found that for this to work, both Nicola and himself would have to commit full-time.
He added: “Our foods are a modern take on traditional African sauces. We realised the business was taking off and took the plunge by leaving our jobs. It was a tough decision but the business was becoming successful.
“We would really love to open our own shop and continue to expand but it is difficult given the current financial climate. We haven’t seen the preview to the programme so we have no idea how it looks but this will give us great exposure.”
"Bim’s Kitchen, which comes from Mr Adedeji’s Nigerian name ‘Abimbola’ will showcase its Baobab chilli jam, made from the fruit from the baoabab tree, also known as the "Upside Down tree" which has struck a chord with residents and regularly sell out at markets."
