A Southgate market that opened last month has been thriving after it received more than £5,000 in grants.

The Kings Market has seen many of its traders sell out on a regular basis.

Open on Sundays from 11am until 3pm at Ashford Parade, visitors are able to buy meat, fruit, breads, flowers and food from around the world.

It received £5,200 from Enfield Borough Council in the Enfield Residents Priority Fund last month.

Councillor Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “I was bowled over by Kings Market, not only the warm welcome that I received when I arrived but by the variety and high quality of all the different goods on offer.

“The market is still in its infancy but already crowds are coming to see what everyone is talking about. All this was made possible by funding from Enfield Council and the ERPF, which is dedicated to delivering money straight into the hands of local people to get inspired projects like this one off the ground.”

Southgate Ward Councillor, Daniel Pearce has welcomed the new market, praising the hard work and determination of the residents involved in making the new market happen.

"Signing off on the payment was the easy part, but I am glad we spotted the diamond in the rough and helped it come to fruition."
