Natural England is set to make a visit to a former university campus as protests continue against the site's controversial redevelopment.

A third day of action has taken place at Cat Hill in Enfield, where protesters have been attempting to stop demolition at the former Middlesex University campus.

Developer London & Quadrant (L&Q) plans to build 231 new homes and was given the go-ahead by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

But campaigners have argued that a survey must be carried out to find great crested newts between March and May, and that no demolition can commence until then.

Today, trees have been uprooted by construction workers, angering Kim Coleman, who is leading the fight.

She said: “I was shocked to see what they are doing. L&Q assured police that Natural England had been down to the site but we know for a fact they haven’t.

“I tweeted Natural England, who have responded by saying they will now make a visit to the site, which is good news.”

Enfield borough councillor Bambos Charalambous also made a visit to the site to show his support.
