Small businesses have been given the chance to set up their own trading space at a ‘pop-up emporium’ launch.

Business group Enterprise Enfield has opened the ‘Pop Up Emporium’ in Savoy Parade, Southbury Road in Enfield.

The scheme will give small, independent businesses, who don’t have their own premises, to sell their goods for the next two months.

The first day of trading was opened by Enfield entrepreneur Laban Roomes, known for winning investment on BBC’s Dragon’s Den for his gold-plating business Goldgenie.

He said: “This is where it all begins for every business. A lot of people forget that this is how Lord Sugar started out, a man now worth £800million.

“This is how I started as well and it gives the high street and traders a real boost to see Enterprise Enfield making the most of an empty shopping space.

“Nobody likes to see an empty shop window and now these businesses will get the chance to show everyone their amazing products.”

Councillor Del Goddard, cabinet member for business and regeneration, said: “The council believes that helping out small businesses in the town centre is very important and we want to make sure that there are fewer empty shops in the borough.”

One of the traders who have latched onto the opportunity is Kassandra Wright, who launched her business Natural Unity three months ago.

She said: “My business offers natural skincare products that are without chemicals. Having something like this is a great chance for me to promote my business and give other budding entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their businesses.”

Enterprise Enfield chief executive des Johnson said: “We are delighted to be involved in this exciting new scheme – which is an excellent opportunity for young business owners to test trade their products, but it’s also something different for Enfield’s shoppers who will be curious to see what’s on offer in the Pop Up Emporium and it also encourages them to this particular corner of Enfield Town and to the surrounding retailers as well.

“We will also be holding some one off special activities, demonstrations and events in the shop too – which will draw in visitors who wouldn’t necessarily have called in otherwise."
