A new supermarket is set to open in Enfield this weekend, creating 20 jobs in the area.

Morrisons is opening its second store in Enfield Town in five months, with the two stores within a mile of each other.

The new Morrisons M Local in Colman Parade, Southbury Road in Enfield Town, will open on Saturday at 9am.

Shayan Asta, who lives above the new supermarket believes it is a good move to put a small supermarket below the newly built flats.

He said: “It is very convenient that the new Morrisons will be so close to us, I won’t have to travel anywhere if I needed to get something really quickly. It was the right decision to put something there.”

However, Jocelyn Western of Fyfield Road, Enfield Town, is baffled as to why another supermarket is opening in Enfield.

“This is the second Morrisons to be built in the town during the past year. It is not necessary. They are less than half a mile apart and a huge Tesco is very close as well. This could damage other businesses around it.”

Emma Rigby, founder of Love Your Doorstep, said: “It’s great not to see empty shops and Morrisons will create more footfall down to the other end of the town.”

Store manager Wayne Henis said: “We’re really pleased to be bringing Morrisons M local to Enfield and will work hard to be at the heart of the local community”.

The store will open from 7am to 11pm every day.
