Enfield Borough Council has named the firm it has chosen to turn Angel Road Rail Station into a ‘thriving' new hub.

Atkins, a global design and engineering firm, has been chosen to design the new rail and bus terminal, which will see an increased service of four trains per hour.

Improvements to the Edmonton rail station are set to be completed within the next five years.

The station will provide better access to the new Meridian Water development, which will see the creation of up to 5,000 new homes and up to 3,000 new jobs.

The £3.5 million project is being supported with funds from the Greater London Authority and Enfield Council.

Councillor Del Goddard, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for business and regeneration, said: “Developing even better transport services for the area is absolutely key as we move forward.

“I am delighted that Atkins has been appointed to deliver this crucial part of the project”.

Atkins’ project manager Paul Reynolds believes the development will turn one of the least used stations in London into a ‘transport hub fit for the 21st Century’.

He said: “The chance to be involved in the creation of this exciting new neighbourhood is something not to be passed up”.
