Figures have revealed that the number of people in Enfield seeking help for debt problems has risen by 45 per cent.
Statistics from debt charity StepChange discovered that in 2013, 990 people who live in the borough contacted the charity's helpline, an increase from 683 people in 2012.
The figures also showed that on average, those who contacted the charity were £62 short of covering their essential household bills each month.
In 2013, people who got in touch with the organisation owed an average of £13,871 in unsecured debt.
