Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes has urged Enfield Borough Council to curb the amount of betting shops in the borough.
Mr Burrowes raised concerns in Parliament that there had been a clustering of betting shops in Green Lanes.
He called on greater powers to be given to local authorities when it came to protecting the high street from saturation.
Planning minister, Nick Boles, agreed with Mr Burrowes concerns about the number of betting shops on high streets
Following the debate Mr Burrowes said that the council should stop “dithtering” and “get on with securing extra local power for our high streets”.
He added: “Enfield Council has been keen to get powers to stop spitting but has ignored my calls for powers to stop more betting shops."
Speaking in Parliament about the number of betting shops is the latest step in Mr Burrowes' long-running campaign to curb their numbers.
In April last year, he held a protest with traders against plans for a new betting shop in Palmers Green.
