Barrowell Green recycling centre to close in February for refurbishment

First published in News by

An Enfield recycling centre will close for part of next month whilst undergoing a £25,000 refurbishment.

The Barrowell Green Recycling Centre, Cosgrove Close in Winchmore Hill, will shut its doors between Tuesday, February 4 and Tuesday, February 11.

The site’s vehicle weighbridge which is used to monitor the weight of the materials removed from the recycling centre, will be repaired during this time.

Mini-recycling stores at Tesco in Savoy Parade and High Street in Ponders End, Co-Op in Hertford Road and Morrisons supermarkets in Aldermans Hill and Southbury Road, are all available across the borough.

It would be nice if they could do some thing about those dreadful speed bumps that they have in the recycling centre. You get all shook up when you drive over them.

This sight is in a totally unsuitable place, why is there not a centre near the eco Park on the North Circ?
All the alternatives mentioned do not take general waste / building /garden waste either. Expect even more fly tipping..

For those who are new to the Borough of Enfield, the Recycling Centre in Barrowell Green stands upon the contaminated land previously occupied by the Barrowell Green outdoor Lido built by Southgate Urban District Council and established when swimming in the pools in Broomfield Park was banned. Next door was the site of the "Waste Transfer Station" used by the Southgate Urban District Council which was demolished and replaced in circa 1986 by the developments of Cosgrove Close and Reardon Court

Is it too late to reopen Carterhatch Road Depot.

Thanks Don, I had no idea of the history, but the problem has increased due to the closure of Carterhatch and the increase in population. The council needs to consider another facility in the area that is more central. May be one of the industrial estates off of the A10? In my opinion more suitable than a residential area. I doubt very much if Carterhatch would be reopened and the same applies to this area now with all the new flats built.

Erm, try going slower, that's the whole idea. I manage to get over them in my cart sprung 1967 Landrover without a jolt.

Last year when they closed Barrowell they diverted us to Haringey's Reuse and Recycling Centre in Tottenham is on Park View Road, N17.

Be warned, it's not the easiest place to find!
