Proposals for the expansion of a primary school to provide places for the borough’s children have been submitted.
The plans for Garfield Primary School were handed into the council last week, and could lead to expansion from a two-form entry to a three-form entry school.
The work will include demolition of part of the existing school building in Springfield Road and the construction of a three-storey block with classrooms, staff and administration accommodation, school hall and kitchen.
Included in the plans, which were submitted by the council, are details of a new playground to the north-east of the site with hard and soft play areas and a caged five-a-side football pitch.
The work at the school is part of the council’s £25million expansion programme provide more reception and primary pupil places.
In total, seven schools will be expanded in order to provide an extra 240 reception places and more than 1,650 new primary school places.
The other schools due to have work done are include Chesterfield Primary, George Spicer Primary, Highfield Primary, Prince of Wales Primary, Worcesters Primary and Edmonton County School.
