An Enfield man will help to keep the Olympic legacy burning bright after being appointed manager of a new cycle park.
The Lee Valley VeloPark in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East London will include the famous London 2012 velodrome where the likes of Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton won gold medals, as well as a remodelled BMX track, a floodlit road circuit and 9km mountain biking trail.
Jeremy Northrop will now oversee the entire development of the venue, which is due to open in March 2014.
The 41-year-old said: “We’ve got a great team on board, with a world of experience and enthusiasm for the venue. We’re working alongside some fantastic organisations including sporting bodies, former users, local communities and cyclist of all standards.
“It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of the launch of Lee Valley VeloPark, I’m looking forward to the challenge of this unique facility with excitement and anticipation.”
