A story about a 34-year-old man who was shot in Southgate was the most read story from Facebook in 2013.

The Enfield Independent’s annual web figures revealed that more 6,500 people read the story about the man who was shot in Fontaine Court, Southgate in April.

The story also drew in the most readers on social website Twitter with more than 1,800 people using the site to read the story.

The man was eventually revealed to be Zafer Eren.

The second most accessed story via Facebook was about Enfield police flocking to Enfield Town centre to thwart a mass end-of-term brawl between rival pupils.

The police sent riot vans and numerous patrol cars on May 24, as well as a helicopter to deal with the mayhem.

It was reported by the Enfield Independent that a gang of 80 to 100 teenagers gathered outside McDonald’s, in Church Street where scuffles broke out.

It is believed that two people were arrested at the scene. The story attracted 4,241 views via Facebook.

Finally, the third most read story on the social hub looked at a memorial event taking place to mark one year since three teenagers lost their lives.

Jack Boyton, and Harry Ferrand, both 17, of the Elsinge estate, Bullsmoor and Ashley Jones, 19, of Canvey Island, Essex, crashed into a parked lorry on the A10 near Hoddesdon in Cheshunt on November 9, 2012.

Mr Boyton’s mother, Sarah, marked the day by hosting an event at her cafe, Jack’s Cafe, built in memory of her son in May this year.

The story was read on Facebook by 2,201 people.

The word “property” was the most searched word on the Enfield Independent’s website with 237.

“Building” with 189 and “stabbing” with 112 were the second and third most searched words on our website.

Dozens of police units were scrambled to Enfield Town this afternoon to prevent a mass end-of-term brawl between rival students.
