An Enfield restaurant has raised more than £10,000 to support an Asian orphanage this Christmas.

The Cock and Dragon in Chalk Lane, Cockfosters, has had been donating money to the Baan Tharn Orphanage in Thailand since 2010 and this year raised £13,039.

The children’s home in Khao Lak was set up following the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and now houses 85 children.

Predominantly run by Thai staff, the restaurant donated 25p for every prawn cracker sold.

Staff also gave customers the option to add £1 to their bill.

General managers Denise and Les Strettle said: “The people of Cockfosters have really got behind the idea and are delighted to be able to do their bit to help these kids.

“It is wonderful that we have been able to raise so much money through an ongoing initiative. We work closely with the orphanage to help it build a strong, sustainable future.”

The money raised goes towards the orphanage’s running costs helps keep the children fed and clothed.
