After the closure of Chase Farm Hospital’s maternity ward in November, the hospital's accident and emergency ward shut on December 9.

However, a Freedom of Information request to the cabinet office showed that former Enfield MP Joan Ryan had accepted its fate when she was MP - something Ms Ryan dismissed as a “smear.”

The trial of a disturbing murder case came to an end when a man was sent to prison for 18 years for murdering his wife by stabbing her 29 times and the running her over.

Minta Adiddo, 38, murdered his wife Akua Agyeman in November 2012 in Enfield Island Village.

The Ghanaian was ‘jealous and obsessed’ by his wife’s alleged affair with their neighbour Oledapo Etti-Williams.

The judge condemned Mr Addido’s actions as “cowardly and selfish” as he sentenced him to a minimum of 18 years behind bars.

In the latest fatal stabbing in the borough, teenager Joshua Folkes was stabbed to death in Palmers Green on December 3.

So far,  three men have been charged with murdering the 17-year-old known as ‘money J’ and two of the three will appear at the Old Bailey in March 2014.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson visited Enfield in December to support local MPs Nick de Bois and David Burrowes in their bid to reduce business rates for local businesses.

The popular figure was mobbed by locals, with many people taking photos with the mayor.

A four-year old girl and her grandmother were rescued from the flat in Edmonton, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Finally, three men were killed on the North Circular Road in Palmers Green after crashing through the road's central reservation and hitting a parked lorry before catching fire.

Two men have been arrested and are currently in custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
