Students from an Enfield school have released their first ever song to raise money for homeless shelters.

Ten pupils from Enfield Grammar School in Market Place, Enfield Town, rallied together to write a song, which they have released on iTunes.

Ranging from Year 7 pupils to sixth formers, the song called ‘Give Them Life’ looks at helping those who are struggling in the Christmas period.

This was a momentous occasion for the historic school as it released its first ever single.

Learning mentor at the school, Mark Babatunde, put the band together and believes the experience has not just helped raise money but will teach pupils at the school valuable lessons.

He said: “At Enfield Grammar we tend to have concerts and we bring some of the biggest people down here and it has been great, But we have not done anything really charitable for the community.

“So this Christmas I decided to get the boys together to reach out to the community so that not only will be doing something charitable but we will be teaching the boys good values as they get older.

“We brought the boys together and they wrote it with their own lyrics. We spoke about homelessness and tried to think about the concept of giving back and we spent a whole day recording a single.”

When asked about the most rewarding aspect of the project, the teacher, himself a former pupil, said: “It has been able to see how the boys have been impacted and understand to idea a bit more, they are wanting to give back."

To celebrate its release, the singers performed in front of their peers at the school on Monday.

Three of the singers, Nathan Osomba, 14, Adil Mir, 18, and Linton Boateng, 15, all spoke about how much they have enjoyed helping give something back.

Nathan said: “I can now say I have done something for the community this Christmas.”

Adil said: “We have been together like a family and work with my friends – making sure that we are helping each other out not just practising but in classes as well. I am very grateful for what I have.”

Linton added: “Mark has been great to work with, he keeps us focused in and he has helped us mature as musicians.”

The song can now be bought on iTunes, Amazon and Google play with all proceeds going to homeless shelters across North London.
