A man who stabbed his wife nearly 30 times and ran her over was “jealous and enraged” over her alleged affair with a neighbour, a court has heard.

Minta Adiddo, 38, killed his wife, Akua Agyeman, by stabbing her 29 times and driving his car over her in Morris Court, Rigby Place in Enfield Island Village at around midnight on November 6, 2012.

In a hearing at the Old Bailey, prosecutor Christopher Hehir described the defence’s case as an “obvious and demonstrative lie.”

Mr Adiddo claims he lost control when his neighbour Oledapo Etti-Williams pointed a gun at his head and insulted him on the evening of Ms Agyeman’s death.

However, in his statement, the prosecutor claimed that the defence “doesn’t add up.”

He said: “The phone records show us that Mr Etti-Williams was on the move heading to work between 10.06pm and 10.09pm that evening and by 10.50pm he is at work. The evidence shows that he was nowhere near Morris Court when the defendant attacked his wife.”

He added: “Mr Etti-Williams, an engineer at a London Underground station, is not a gun-toting gangster.”

In a statement the former Sainsbury’s worker gave in May 2013, he said that after the altercation, an argument “quickly ensued” between the couple and resulted in Adiddo stabbing his wife to death.

The altercation between Etti-Williams and the couple supposedly took place at around 9.30pm, two-and-a-half hours before the stabbing - something which Mr Hehir said does not align with the description “quickly ensued” as written in the defence’s statement.

Family member Bismark Agyei phoned the couple on the night of the stabbing at approximately 10.10pm (after the supposed gun incident) and claimed in his evidence that he spoke to both Agyeman and Adiddo and everything sounded fine.

Mr Hehir also pointed to this as a sign that the gun incident was “made up.”

In evidence yesterday, Adiddo admitted to deliberately running over his wife, another element that the crown cites as the Ghanaian man “suddenly snapping.”

The defence barrister Jonathan Higgs will give his statement tomorrow.
