An Enfield school has been invaded by some of television's most feared creations, the Daleks.

Students from Kingsmead School in Southbury Road, Enfield, were treated to a visit from a full sized moving Dalek, the arch-enemy of Dr Who.

The school was also visited by Keith Temple, one of the writers of the show.

The day was organised by PE teacher Charlie Mackenzie, a lifelong Doctor Who fan who has appeared in audio programmes with former Doctors Colin Baker and Paul McGann.

He said: “Doctor Who has never been more popular, indeed it’s now seen as pretty cool. Not like in my day when if you were a fan you had to keep it very quiet. It seemed appropriate to commemorate this special birthday by doing something for the students.

“I know some people who own full-size Daleks and thought that it would be a thrill to have one burst into an assembly. My friend Nigel Moore stepped up, and the response was amazing. The students were thrilled.

“Big thanks to Mrs Barry and the entire senior school team for being right behind the event.”

Writer Keith Temple said, “This is where it’s at. Doctor Who is for kids, young and old, so it’s great to know that we who have been involved with the show are doing something right. The look on the students’ faces was priceless. I’m sure they’ve been given a memory they will never forget.”
