Eyewitnesses to the stabbing of a woman in Enfield Island Village have been giving evidence at the Old Bailey today.

Akua Agyeman was stabbed 15 times in Morris Court, Rigby Place, Enfield Island Village, on November 6, 2012, by Minta Addido, who appeared for the first time in court yesterday accused of murder.

Witness Anthony Elliot, who was driving a 121 route bus, noticed two people fighting on the grass verge on the night of the attack.

He said: “At the time I thought it was two men fighting. I stopped my bus and got out to see what was happening. I then realised it was a man and woman and I saw the man take one lunge into her stomach.

“He ran off and I went closer to the woman who was lying on her back with little clothing on, she had been slashed across the belly button.”

The bus driver, who gave evidence behind a screen, continued: “After calling for an ambulance I went back to the woman. I then I saw a car coming at quite a pace towards us. I got out the way and I heard a thud as the car ran over the woman.”

Prosecutor Christopher Hehir later read out statements from four other eyewitnesses.

Evidence included that from Idaresit Odoh, who said: “I heard this excruciating noise and she was shouting ‘help me’. The screaming was continuous. I then saw a car run her over and drag her.”

Mr Addido who has admitted killing his wife but has pleaded not guilty to murder.

The trial continues.
