A group of men were determined to do one final good deed before shaving their charity moustaches at the end of Movember - so dyed them a wacky shade of pink.

Brave staff from St Martha’s Girls School, in Hadley Wood, spent Friday sporting fluorescent crumb catchers to help raise money for women’s cancer charities.

Eleven teachers took part in Movember, which sees men across the world ditch their razors to grow impressive moustaches to support prostate cancer charities.

Hairdressers applied the semi permanent dye at a special event in the school hall, as pupils offered cheers of encouragement from the sidelines.

Science teacher Rod Odell even went the extra mile by agreeing to have his eyebrows dyed the electric colour.

Bursar Stephen Rayner, who organised the event, said: “We all looked very odd, but it was a great way to celebrate the end of a fantastic Movember.

“Some of the teachers had to go back to their standard lessons and teach with their pink taches, it was quite surreal.

“There was a great atmosphere in the hall - all the pupils were in high spirits and everyone had a lot of fun.”

Their campaign saw them raise £3,000 for prostate cancer and Friday’s event helped raise £400 for women’s cancer research charities.

Mr Rayner, 56, encouraged his colleagues to get involved with the event after loosing his mother, father and sister to cancer.

He added: “I want to help put an end to this terrible disease.

“During Movember, it was really itchy. There were some dodgy looking top lips going around the school and we got lots of comments from the girls who used to wear false taches to spur us along.

“It was our chance to do something different. Usually it’s the mum’s who help plan charity events, but it was nice for us men to do our bit.”
