A school has celebrated the rich culture amongst its pupils by going back to its roots.

George Spicer Primary School in Southbury Road, Enfield, has more than 400 pupils and commemorated its diversity with a culture week.

Pupils of the school were encouraged to go back to their roots to learn more about where they came from.

Last Friday, the Enfield school was awash with colours as the pupils dressed up in traditional clothing from their country or simply the colours of their country’s flag.

The afternoon saw children guess which country their friends were from and learn parts of a different language from Welsh to Turkish.

Teacher of the school Christine Wilkins-Molloy believes that diversity is something which should be embraced by all schools.

She said: “It is really important to have weeks like this because we are a multi-cultural society now, we can’t change that. People need to understand we are all together being British and we can respect and enjoy each other’s differences that we all bring something to the mix that we can learn from and enjoy together.

“We have been learning games, songs, dances from different cultures in our classrooms. Children have been investigating into many different countries and going back to their roots. We have even had parents come in to showcase different foods.”

The school has also gained its UN charter for the Rights of the Child level one demonstrating its awareness to the diversity of school and its pupils.
