North Middlesex University Hospital will take on more patients after a court upheld a decision to close Chase Farm’s emergency and maternity units.
Yesterday, a judge at the Royal Courts of Justice dismissed a legal challenge launched by Enfield Borough Council to save services at Chase Farm.
This means that from December 9, North Middlesex Hospital, in Edmonton, will start receiving ambulance patients who would previously have been taken to Chase Farm Hospital.
It will also start admitting expectant mothers to its new maternity unit from November 20.
Julie Lowe, the hospital’s chief executive, welcomed the court's decision.
She said: “I’m delighted that there is now certainty about the future of local health services.
“And that North Middlesex University Hospital can now play our part in providing better, safer care for local people in Enfield and Haringey.”
The closure of Chase Farm Hospital’s accident and emergency and maternity units is part of the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Clinical Strategy.
