A paramedic based in Kenton has been commended for his bravery, skill, dedication and heroic actions at an awards event in central London.
Paul Kelly, of London Ambulance Service, was awarded the Chief Executive's commendation which recognises highly exceptional actions.
Yesterday he was praised after he put himself in danger to treat police officers who had been attacked in a butcher's shop in Harrow.
Mr Kelly did not hesitate to go into the shop to treat the officers despite the attacker still being on scene with a knife.
He said: “The man was still inside with a knife but I knew that there were people in there who needed help quickly.
“I went into the shop and made my way over to one of the injured officers and started to treat him.
“He was very calm but it was a chaotic scene, thankfully some of his colleagues as well as my own crewmate were there to help.
“It is a real honour to be given this award although I am sure any paramedic would have done the same in that situation.”
