Plans for Enfield Borough Council to acquire part of the billion pound development at Meridian Water have been agreed in principle.
At a meeting of the council's cabinet last night, proposals were agreed to acquire 85 hectares of land at the Meridian Water site in Edmonton.
The purchase is an attempt to drive the early stages of the £1.3bn transformation of the area that will see a new school, university technical college, police station, new rail links and housing built
Conservative Southgate councillor Robert Hayward expressed his support for the developments taking place however he urged the council’s cabinet to consider more family housing to be built on the site as opposed to flats.
A further cabinet report will be submitted to finalise the purchase of the site.
