Southgate MP David Burrowes visits school on World Milk Day
An MP took on the role of milk monitor for the day at a primary school as part of World School Milk Day.
Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Primary School in Limes Avenue, Southgate, welcomed Southgate MP David Burrowes on Friday as hundreds of schools and nurseries in the country encouraged children to drink more milk.
The official world school milk day is Wednesday, September 25, and is an initiative run by the United Nations in more than 30 countries.
Mr Burrowes said: "It's great to support WSMD, unite children and adults worldwide and support the fact that milk is good for you and tastes great as well."
The day is funded in the UK by Cool Milk. Managing director John Sedgwick said: “School milk provides a great boost for children because it is such a wholesome and nutritional product.”
“All children in nurseries and schools up and down the country should have access to school milk every day.”
In the UK, £1.5 million children under five receive free milk everyday while pupils from five to 11 receive subsidised milk.
