Tory MP David Burrowes is hoping for a Lab win next Thursday
Southgate MP David Burrowes will be hoping for a Lab win next week, but not in the political sense.
On Thursday, Mr Burrowes will compete at Westminster Dog of the Year 2013 set up by Dog’s Trust and the Kennel Club, where MPs from across the country will bring their four-legged friends to Victoria Tower Gardens, Westminster, to battle for the prize.
After being pipped to the post last year, the MP and his three-year-old Labrador Cholmeley are even more determined to succeed.
He said: “Cholmeley came second last year and he now has his eye on the top prize - when it is not on his ball. Either that or he wants to eat more dog cup cakes which are available on the day.
“More importantly, he is helping to campaign for responsible dog ownership both in Enfield and across the country.
“He needs your votes so visit my website or Cholmeley's Facebook page to register your support. After that he just needs to woo the judges with his affectionate, playful and lovable personality - as well explain how he will bring out world peace.”
Clarissa Baldwin, CEO of the Dogs Trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome so many MPs and their four legged friends to this year’s competition. Our nation of dog lovers is clearly demonstrated through its political representatives."
