Enfield North MP Nick de Bois was close to receiving the chop after his public meeting clashed with a martial arts group
Enfield North MP Nick de Bois was almost given the chop this week, but not in the way people expect.
The MP was expecting to hold a weekly meeting for locals to discuss Enfield and national issues, but plans were thrown into doubt as the session clashed with a Jiu-Jitsu class at Kettering Hall in Ordnance Road, Enfield.
Fortunately for Mr de Bois, Gary Maas, who runs the class, postponed the event to let the “Nick Direct” meeting go ahead.
The Enfield North MP said: “We turned up on the night and found there had been a mix-up, so it was very kind of Gary to let us go ahead."
The Jiu-Jitsu expert, who runs classes across Enfield four times a week, admitted he was confused but offered Mr de Bois a potential service in the future.
He said: “When I got here I started setting up as usual, and then I noticed a queue of people outside and I was baffled as to why they were here. No one had told me that Mr de Bois’ meeting had been scheduled but it wasn’t a problem to cancel our session.
“I told Nick that if he ever needed a couple of body guards in the future then we would be more than happy to do that for him."
