Supermarket opens in Enfield Town high street
A new supermarket in Enfield opened its doors today for the first time.
The Morrisons local in Church Street, Enfield, was opened today, creating 20 new jobs.
Mayor of Enfield Cllr Chaudhury Anwar opened the shop and said he was delighted to see more opportunities created for young people.
Cllr Anwar said: “It is always difficult to find employment and when people aren’t working they lose their self-confidence. These new jobs will give people the confidence they need to flourish at work.
“It is great to see another shop opening in the town and this will benefit the economy of the town greatly.”
The new Morrisons is taking over premises from music chain HMV which traded in the town for more than 30 years.
When asked about the former shop, the Mayor said: “It is always emotional to see a long standing shop close but when a new shop can come in and offer new jobs to the people of Enfield then we are behind it. Unemployment in Enfield is very high and we hope by bringing in more business, this can be reduced.”
