Enfield designer to showcase her garments on world stage
A young and talented fashion designer from Enfield will battle to win a London prize with 20 other hopefuls at the world famous London Fashion Week.
Yosana De Ceita Rodrigues, 18, who attends Winchmore School in Laburnham Grove, Enfield, will be showcasing her designs at London Fashion week as for of the 2013 Junior Fashions Awareness Direct (FAD) Awards.
FAD, which creates industry opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, has put on ‘Fashion Futures’ workshops for months and has chosen 20 finalists to battle it out at the coveted fashion week in the capital.
The candidates will have to design garments inspired by their urban city surroundings at the prestigious Freemasons’ Hall in Covent Garden and Ms Rodrigues spoke about how she has grown at the workshops.
She said: “Throughout the whole course I’ve become a lot more independent. I’ve learnt a whole bunch of things that you don’t get trained in at school. Like learning how to pattern cut for example, we’ve been properly trained in that. We’ve been given time to practice it again and again so we can get it right. It enables us to understand the skills behind it all.
“Also the FAD tutors guidance has given me things like sticking to a dead line and having the confidence to step it up a gear.”
With the big day just weeks away, on September 17, at 7pm, the 18-year-old said she was just happy to be involved in the finale.
She said: “I actually feel privileged to be here. I never expected to have come this far because every ones work has been so strong. I didn’t think I’d get in but I am so pleased and shocked that I managed it.”
