Edmonton McDonalds clamps down on litterers
One of the world’s largest fast food restaurants has joined forces with locals in Edmonton to tackle litter louts.
A group of 21 Staff from the McDonald’s restaurant in Fore Street, Edmonton put on a ‘Love Where You Live’ event in which local residents, Sgt Andre Smith from Edmonton Police, town centre manager Tahsin Ibrahim and chairman of CAPE Janet Billingsley all donned high visibility jackets for the occasion.
Armed with litter pickers, the crew collected more than 15 bags of litter and aimed to encourage the community to take responsibility and keep the street clean of waste.
Local McDonald’s franchisee Hamid Darbandi said: “It was inspiring to see members of the community join forces to take action on litter that damages our environment.
"Unfortunately there are still a significant proportion of people who think it’s acceptable to drop litter – it’s everyone’s responsibility and through these events we wanted to generate awareness of the issue, educate those people on how to dispose of rubbish properly and encourage them to be more responsible."
