Enfield Cricket Club among sports clubs handed thousands from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund
A sailing association in Barnet and two cricket clubs in Enfield and Harrow were among 23 sports groups handed cash through an Olympic legacy initiative.
The Welsh Harp Sailing Association and Harrow St Mary’s and Enfield cricket clubs were all given tens of thousands of pounds by Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
The cash pot of £1.29million, shared among the 23 clubs, comes from a £40million donation from the National Lottery to extend Sport England’s legacy fund until 2017.
The Welsh Harp Sailing Association, based at the Brent Reservoir near Brent Cross, was handed £37,820 to improve its facilities and equipment.
Enfield Cricket Club received a grant of £20,000, while Harrow St Mary’s was given £36,679.
Minister for Sport Hugh Robertson said: “This £40 million injection of National Lottery funding will be a huge boost to local sports facilities across the country.
“The Inspired Facilities fund has been a massive success and by extending it to 2017 it will help encourage many more people to get involved in community sport.”
Bids will be accepted for the next round of Inspired Facilities funding from October 21. For more information, visit www.sportengland.org/inspiredfacilities.
