A £25million rail investment could see the number of train services travelling through Edmonton quadruple.

The scheme has been recommended by Haringey and Enfield Borough Councils and the London Enterprise Panel but proposals still needs to be approved by the Mayor of London.

If passed, it would boost frequency through Angel Road, Northumberland Park and Tottenham Hale from one to four trains per hour.

The investment will upgrade the rail line between the Upper Lea Valley and Stansted.

Combined with the £2.5 million funding to reopen Angel Road Station it drive forward the regeneration of the £1.3 billion Meridian Water development, which will provide up to 5,000 homes and 3,000 jobs.

Enfield Council's cabinet member for business and regeneration, Cllr Del Goddard, said: “We'd like to thank the Greater London Authority, Transport for London, our local MPs, the business community and the Local Enterprise Partnership for supporting this bid."

"Enfield Council and its partners realised excellent rail links are a fundamental requirement if our ambitious plans to provide thousands of homes and jobs in our borough and beyond are to be delivered.

“We have lobbied hard to successfully attract more than £74 million from Network Rail and the GLA to make this project a reality.

"The regeneration of the Lee Valley will play a major role in boosting business as a whole and this improvement to infrastructure will play an absolutely vital role in helping to provide an estimated £10.7 billion boost to the UK economy by 2031.”

Mr Goddard added that Enfield Council is committed to creating the ideal conditions for businesses to flourish and ensure they can create the jobs and opportunities for residents.

The next stage of approval for the £25m project is further assessment by the Greater London Authority's Investment and Performance Board before final agreement by the Mayor of London.
