A young mother campaigning to banish the stigma surrounding teenage motherhood has received backing from her MP.

Mother-of-two Yvonne Omini, from Enfield Lock, is working with charity Fixers to change attitudes through reaching out to teenage mothers and young girls – believing there is not enough support available to them.

The 24-year-old, who had two children before she was 20, met Enfield North MP Nick de Bois to discuss her project and her aims for the future.

After he pledged to help, she said: "If somebody had told me this time last year that I would be sitting down with an MP, I wouldn't have thought it was possible.

"I was just being myself and knowing that he was listening to what I was saying and helping to open doors of opportunity for me was amazing."

The young mother, who wants to become a motivational speaker, has had her campaign featured on ITV London News and she has visited the House of Commons through her work with the charity.

The Conservative MP said: "I am delighted to have met Yvonne who is clearly an inspiration to others who want to take back control of their life and release their potential," he said.

"She has an extraordinary story, fantastic energy and enthusiasm, and I look forward to working with her.

"I know that Fixers has a very powerful message and offering to young people, which is very relevant to our needs here in Enfield."

Fixers has supported more than 7,400 young people across the UK take action and change things for the better, as long as the campaign will benefit others.
