Investigation launched into Winchmore Hill house fire

An investigation has been launched into a fire which left a man needing hospital treatment for smoke inhalation.

Thirty-five firefighters were called to Halstead Gardens in Winchmore Hill just before 3.30pm on Saturday after a fire tore through the first floor and loft extension of a house.

A 32-year-old man was treated by paramedics before being rushed to Chase Farm Hospital in The Ridgeway for further treatment.

Five people were evacuated from the neighbouring house as the fire began to spread onto its roof.

Another person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but was not taken to hospital.

Firefighters from Enfield, Southgate, Edmonton, Walthamstow and Tottenham brought the fire under control just before 8pm.
