Major gas leak forces 180 people to evacuate homes in Enfield Town
9:35am Tuesday 19th March 2013 in News By Hermione Wright
Almost 200 people were evacuated from their homes last night following a major gas leak.
Approximately 180 people living in St Andrew’s Road in Enfield Town were woken at 12.30am while emergency services urgently tried to fix the problem.
Enfield Town centre was cordoned off to protect people from the leak - which was caused by road maintenance work in the area - and Enfield Town station was closed.
Families were taken to Enfield Civic Centre in Silver Street and cared for by the British Red Cross while the leak was fixed.
Paramedics were called, but no one was injured.
Southbury Road remains closed both ways for resurfacing works between Silver Street and Willow Road.
