A primary school raised a record amount for Comic Relief by collecting more than £3,000.

Pupils at Garfield Primary School in Springfield Road, New Southgate, helped raise money for the charity after being set the challenge to collect more than £750.

As an incentive, teachers at the school made a 30-minute comedy film that pupils could only watch on Red Nose Day if they managed the get past their goal.

But, after two weeks of collecting, the school smashed the target and raised £3,486, so all were able to watch the film on Friday.

Teacher Jenny Helmer said: “It was a fantastic day and all the children did an amazing job raising so much.

“Over the two weeks we did a lot in lessons about where the money would go and I think they all really got a lot out of it.

“The whole school, pupils and staff, really enjoyed the whole two weeks and we are really proud of all the children.”

The huge sum of money is the most the school has ever raised, with yet more donations expected over the coming week.
