Thousands of pupils from across the country have taken part in National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships in Edmonton.

The 2,500 pupils from Year 7 to 13 battled it out on 100 indoor rowing machines at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre yesterday.

Mick Bond, manager of the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, said: “It’s great to see such widespread interest in this event with young rowers coming from across the country.

“Many will have been inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and once again we’re proud to be part of a successful legacy and expecting a great day of competition.”
