A football fan accused of throwing a banana at Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gareth Bale is due to appear in court next month.

Thomas Flint, of Brantwood Gardens, has been charged with throwing a missile onto the pitch during the north London derby against Arsenal in White Hart Lane on March 3.

The 23-year-old carpenter has also been charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The fruit was thrown as 23-year-old Bale was about to take a corner during the derby, which Spurs went on to win 2–1.

Mr Flint has been bailed to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court in Islington on April 12.
