Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill Transport for London road scheme given the go-ahead
9:10am Sunday 24th February 2013 in News By Hermione Wright
Work to improve pedestrian safety in Green Lanes is due to start next month.
Transport for London (TfL) is paying £22,000 to install traffic islands near Stonard Road in Palmers Green and Radcliffe Road in Winchmore Hill to make it easier for people to cross the busy road in two stages.
Traffic and waiting restrictions will also be introduced nearby to keep the roads free of parked cars.
Enfield Borough Council is supporting the works, which are also intended to stop people overtaking dangerously in the area.
The council's cabinet member for environment Councillor Chris Bond said: "Road safety is an important issue and we'll do everything we possibly can to reduce accidents and injury for all road users including pedestrians.
“This scheme strikes a good balance between making it much easier to cross Green Lanes, while keeping traffic moving and I'm confident it will play an important role in reducing casualties."
