An Olympic volunteer keen to keep the spirit of the Games alive is urging badminton players to join his club.

Lawrie Curtis runs the club in Drill Hall in Old Park Avenue, Enfield Chase, from 2pm to 4pm every Wednesday.

However, membership has flagged recently from 30 members to just 12 and Mr Curtis is keen for more people to get involved.

Although the club – which has three courts suitable for doubles matches - is largely for the over 50s age group, anyone is welcome.

Mr Curtis, who took over running the club from his parents-in-law three years ago, said: “It is a very friendly club; we always talk to each other and we don’t take it too seriously.

“It’s a social thing and half way through we stop to have tea and biscuits.”

Membership costs £3.50 per session or £26 for ten weeks.

People are encouraged to turn up on the day or call Mr Curtis on 020 8524 1894 or 07974 048 360 for more information.
